Just come back from an inspirational service when Mark, my nephew was inducted as youth minister in the church up here in Frinton. He and the church are totally focused on reaching todays youth generation and have bought a high street shop as a hang out / drop in place for them, which is used during the day for those who’ve dropped out of school and are drifting.
I’ve also just received three boxes of books and materials for doing the Purpose Driven Life course with a bunch of people wanting to sharpen their life’s focus. its exciting being around focused people. Its the one thing we’ve been looking for in the different churches we’ve been visiting wondering where God wants to place us. Sadly there’s too much drift, not enough direction in most churches.
Its vital we stay focused on God’s purpose. Its how Jesus survived the hurt of betrayal and the pain of the cross. ‘He was willing to die a shameful death on the cross because of the joy he knew would be his afterwards’ (Hebrews 12v2).
Corrie Ten Boom who suffered in a Nazi death camp, explained the power of focus like this: ‘If you look at the world you’ll be distressed. If you look within you’ll be depressed. But if you look at Christ you’ll be at rest’.
So don’t drift towards the mark! Keep Jesus sharply in focus. And if He’s a bit fuzzy to you at the moment, why not join in with our 40 Days of Purpose starting next week. There’s always room for one more!!.
Thank Les for.reminding us that God’s people never retire from His purposes.
