Woke up with tears streaming down my face this morning. God’s lovely son died to tear down the dividing walls between the races, nations and sexes; very soon we’ll be putting them up all round ‘island mentality’ Britain again.I went to bed hoping to wake up in Great big hearted Britain, but instead its Sad keep out Britain.
Its going to be even harder to say to people when we go over the English Channel on our mission trips to people who live differently to us, ‘You are welcome to come into the Kingdom of God’ , when in the next breath we say ‘But you are not welcome to come
into our country’. ‘English man, you speak with forked tongue‘ they will think.
It was wonderful when God started bringing foreigners and strangers here, so we could invite them into our homes and show Christian love and share the Good News with people we’d never reach otherwise. We have experienced the truth so often of Hebrews 13:2
‘Don’t forget to show hospitality to strangers, for some who have done this have entertained angels without realising it!’
This referendum result has long term implications for global mission. At the moment it looks like a megga set back for Kingdom outreach, but then I remember how bleak things looked on Good Friday when Jesus saw all His values rejected and was crucified. But love cant be snuffed out. ‘Father forgive them for they know not what they do’, was His incredible response to the nail-bangers. It must be mine as well.
Something started there that went round the world. God works best in spiritual graveyards, so I have to
- CLING to Romans 8:28 , pick my self up again believing
‘that in all things God works for good with those who love him, those whom he has called according to his purpose’. - PRAY with increased fervency, ‘May your Kingdom come on earth as it is in heaven’, and
- LOOK for Him to show us how to make sad, ‘draw bridge up’ Britain into GREAT ‘we love all tongues, tribes, nations‘ BRITAIN again.
And to all my friends overseas wondering what on earth is going on in Britain, I ask you to please pray for us Christians here; there is a battle going on for the soul of our nation. We are not wrestling against human beings but against the wicked spiritual forces in the heavenly world, the rulers, authorities, and cosmic powers of this dark age.(Ephesians 6v12). Pray for us to be salt and light at this time
