Try Walton on the Naze for some of the best fish and chips anywhere, especially Tollgate Fisheries. They change the oil every day, use local potatoes, the best fish they can get from a variety of suppliers, and cook fresh to order. The batter is thin and crispy, not greasy, and the chips are golden and not soggy.  Delicious!

But the chips always lack one thing there; the one thing they need to make them zing on the tastebuds, to do justice to all the care taken in cooking them, to make them complete, perfect.

The man who re-arranged deck chairs on the Titanic

deckchair There were exactly 256 deck chairs on the Titanic and two men were responsible for every single one of them.

They both took their job very seriously.By all accounts, every morning they were supposed to set up all the deck chairs and face them toward the sun. As the ship moved during the day they had to carefully monitor the situation and re-arrange the chairs.

They also had to ensure that German holidaymakers didn’t get up at six in the morning and try to claim the deck chairs by placing a towel on them, as they are still known to do nowadays at resorts worldwide.
